Beds Road Cycling Club Go-Ride Race Results - 26 March 2011
A cool, breezy day, with dry field saw a turnout of 24 competitors at Robert Bloomfield Middle School
The first group of races were arranged in age groups, and consisted of an individual time trial.
In an individual time trial, each competitor is set off at intervals of 1 minute or 30 seconds, to complete the course alone, as
fast as they can. This can be tricky because you can't gauge your speed against anyone else. Instead you must judge how
much effort to put in. Too little and you will take too long, too much and you can exhaust yourself before the end.
The second group of races were done in age groups, where the first over the line wins.
Josh Rayner gave a good example of how to race, keeping close behind the leader for most of the race, benefiting from being
shielded from the wind. On the last lap, he surprised the leader, who was now tired after being head on into the wind for
most of the race, and sprinted past him for a clear victory.
We then added up the points from both races to find the final ranking.
1st place gets 1 point, 2nd gets 2 points etc, so the person with the fewest combined points wins.
