BRCC Reliability Rides for 2026

Reliability rides are are early-season non-competitive rides. They are a great way to kick the year off, around local lanes to build up your mileage for the season ahead, whilst socialising with other club members and guests.

Starting and finishing at our cosy Club House in Cardington, we even treat you to free hot soup, rolls, teas and coffees on your return.

While some view reliability rides as an anachronism in the modern age of GPS and carbon fiber, they remain a vital, cherished tradition for many cyclists.

Historical Context:
The term originated when cycling equipment was crude and roads were poor, serving as a practical test for both machine and rider before the racing season.

Despite the threat of being replaced by more feature-packed events, many clubs preserve them for the social bond they create and the no-frills challenge they offer, bridging the gap between casual club rides and competitive racing.

Thus, while the original need for mechanical testing has diminished, the reliability ride persists as a unique cultural fixture that values endurance and self-sufficiency over modern conveniences.





This year we have 2 reliability ride dates for you. You can do just one, or both of them.

Provisional dates:

 1. The Pre-Spring Starter - 7th Feb '27
 2. The Spring Ride - 28 March '27

Timings:
You should aim to get back for 12:30 – 13:00 (includes 30 min break en-route)

The aim is we all get back to the clubhouse around the same time for soup and rolls.

Cost is £5 for BRCC Members, £10 for non-members.
